Five weird things about me

Ok, so I got a phonecall earlier from Liz letting me know I'd been 'tagged'. I don't know what's wrong with me in the new year. Could be that I'm turning into a mushhead, but first I'm joining facebook, now I'm doing one of these meme dealies?! Keara must be getting to me.

First the rules:

The first player of this game starts with the topic “five weird habits of yourself,” and people who get tagged need to write an entry about their five weird habits as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose the next five people to be tagged and link to their web journals. Don’t forget to leave a comment in their blog or journal that says “You are tagged” (assuming they take comments) and tell them to read yours.

Anyway, 5 weird things about me (that you didnt need/want to know):

1. I'm quite intelligent, but I'd rather do manual labour than sit behind a desk pushing paper/writing code. [Pushing pixels, however, does appeal to me. May have to look into doing the MSc in Multimedia in DCU or something undergrad in NCAD.]

2. My musical taste is (viewed by others) dubious. Personally I like it. ;-)

3. I work better at night than during the day. That's not just something I say, literally I do. You can throw the "but your productivity is affected" argument at me all day, won't make it any less true though.

4. I never forget promises I make, I just don't follow through on some of them. I'll even feel guilty afterwards for not having kept it. Sometimes I feign forgetfulness in order to shirk my responsibility.

5. I am the Devil's Advocate. If you argue with me, we may have the same opinion but I'll still argue the opposite point. I'll do it well and with finesse too, because I'll always steer the argument to where it's a case of your opinion vs mine. What's more, you can't tell me that my opinion is wrong, because it's mine. Somehow (thankfully) I managed to stay out of debating in college.

I'll finish this post with a quote from The Dude: "That's, like, just your opinion, man..."

I'm not going to 'tag' five people though. The weirdness ends here...

...and that

In terms of your musical taste, how dubious are we talking?

See, that's a tricky one. I'll listen to almost anything and try to give it a chance. The only exceptions I make are U2, R.E.M. and hardcore dance (anything they play in clubs) music. I reserve the right to declare other kinds of music rubbish also.

Primarily I listen to Metal, Heavy Metal, Mathcore and Death Metal. (If you can't understand what they're singing, I probably listen to it.)

However, I listen to music as diverse as Country, Bluegrass, Instrumental (Godspeed you black emporer! being a great example; I'm listening to them now...), Electronica, Jazz, Punk, Classical (Orchestral only though...)...

I can post a list of bands if that's not a clear enough picture of dubious...

That's not too dubious at all. I'm with you on U2 and any REM post Automatic for the People.

What electronica do you favour?

That depends. Some of what I consider electronica isn't really, I just prefer to call it that rather than dance or idm or something...

Autechre, Aphex Twin, Orbital, Future Sounds of London, Portishead, Bjork, Orb, Kraftwerk and so forth...

I suppose it's not dubious when you talk to people with similar musical tastes or open minds. Never fails to make me smile when I'm asked in college or somewhere like 4 Dame Lane what I'm into ;)

All good stuff. I just got the new Coldcut album which has a couple of great tracks on it, but is overall, quite tepid.

Treat yourself to the Kraftwerk boxset. It's metal and looks like a laptop. It contains the double CD and DVD of Minimum Maximum.

I'll have to cry 'poor student' on that one Sinead...definitely put the box set on my list of 'things to buy when i'm working again'
